How to Create a Home Office

How we work, especially for those with office-based jobs, has changed significantly over the past year, with more and more people working from home.

It has been a good time to show just how productive people can be from home, but that is only going to happen when you are working in a clear and organized home office space.

If you are looking to help yourself to be more organized, and create a home orifice that is organized, then here are some tips to help.

1. Empty the Room of Everything and Deep Clean

One of the best things that you can do for yourself, and for the room that you will be working from, is to start off with a clean slate. One of the first things that you should do is to take everything out of the room, and then have a deep clean in the room (and of the items).

It is good to start safe in the knowledge that your room is clean and then you will have a good base to put things back into the room. You’re not going to get distracted by piles of dust if you’re in a room that is clean and orderly.

2. Use Self Storage

As you have a sort out of the room, and make it clean and organized, then you might find that there are some things in the room that you just don’t need in there, especially right now.

Using a local storage facility can help, because any large items, such as spare chairs, or smaller items, such as boxes of toys, can be stored away until you need them again.

Having a home office space that is organized and free from clutter can make such a difference to how well you work, so it is definitely worth considering storing some items away from your home to help.

3. Keep Only Furniture You Need

The thought of working from home can sound fun sometimes, right? Just rolling out of bed and opening up your laptop, or perhaps not even leaving your bed at all.

But really, this is no way to work, for your mental health or your productivity. Having an office space that is set up just like a normal office will help you to get in the right headspace for working and that will aid how efficiently you are able to work.

So get all of your furniture in there, such as a desk or table, and get a comfortable chair. One that is adjustable can be the best option, so it can fully support you.

4. Purchase Office Supplies

If you’re working from home, you don’t have the luxury of an endless supply of pens or paper, which you might have had in your office. So in order to be able to get on with your work in a timely manner, you need to buy in all of the office supplies that you will need.

Make sure that you keep it all organized, though, such as using filing boxes for papers, and a desk tidy for things like pens and paper. When you know exactly where everything is, it will be so much easier to grab it as and when you need it.

5. Invest in a Quality Printer/Scanner/Copier

Just as you won’t have access to endless office supplies, unless you have them already at home, you won’t have access to office equipment. If you will need to print, copy, or scan certain documents or items for your job, then you will need to invest in quality versions of each.

Local places where you may normally be able to print may not be open as and when you need them, so get organized at home with them. Plus, if you speak to your employer, it could be something that can be classed as an expense.

6. Decorate to Your Liking (but keep clutter-free)

Once you have all of your office furniture and equipment in place, how will you decorate it? Of course, having an office space that looks how you want it is going to make working in there so much easier.

You can just get on with working, rather than getting frustrated about the peeling wallpaper. There are some colors to paint a room that are best for productivity, such as blue, an intellectual color, and green, a color that provides balance.

Some motivational quotes on the wall, as well as something like a pinboard, can be positive and help you to work in a clutter-free way.

There are a few simple things that can make a difference to how you will be able to work in your office. Making a few changes, and getting more organized with your home office, will help you to enjoy being there and make working from home much more productive.
