1. The Breed
Before you go out and buy the first dog you see, you should research the different types of dogs there are. So many different breeds exist, and each one comes with its own manual.
A pink papered German Shepherd will be different to care for than a German Shorthair Pointer dog. You need to make sure your life is appropriate for whatever dog you get. Some are more active, meaning you’ll need a lot of land to keep them happy, while others will be more personal and won’t like to be left alone for long periods of time.
2. The Cost
Owning a dog is not something that requires a one-time purchase. Once you buy your puppy, you’ll need to think about all the different expenses you’ll have.
Vet appointments should be at the forefront of your mind. While you don’t want anything to happen to your dog, accidents do occur so you’ll need to think about potential bills. Vaccines and medicine are some other unexpected costs that could occur. Don’t forget the daily fees that they take as well though, such as food, treats, toys, and so on.
3. The Time
Dogs are animals that need a lot of time. If you get one while it is a puppy, you’ll really need to think about how much time it’s going to take to raise it. In some respects, it will be like raising a toddler.
They’ll demand countless hours of attention and care that only you can give them. You need to make sure you’re ready to go through a schedule change for your dog before getting it.
4. The Training
Training your dog will require you to be focused and consistent. They don’t just know how to play fetch. It’s something you’ll need to work with them on. Poddy training is another thing you’ll need to guide them through.
You have to be willing to teach your dogs how they are supposed to act and what they are supposed to do. This will take time and can often become frustrating, so you need to make sure you’re willing to put your dog first once you get it.
Dogs are commonly known to be man’s best friend. While this may be true, make sure you’re willing and able to take care of that friend before getting it.
