$50 Million Invested in Online Therapy App to Expand Services

Talkspace is an app that’s designed to help people with a variety of issues ranging from mental health concerns to career issues. The platform is convenient for users because they can access a therapist on their terms and connect with them whenever necessary. The app has different packages for types of therapy and frequency of sessions. Talk therapy, video chat, and texting are all available. The concept was brought to life in 2012 by founder Oren Frank as a solution to the problem he found with accessing mental health services. Today, it’s estimated that over 5,000 counselors and 300,000 active patients are enjoying the services.

A New Investment in the App will Work to Increase Commercial Services

A marketing tool that’s used to sell the app is by offering it to employers at a discounted rate. In turn, the employer offers it as a benefit to the employees. This is a great solution for those that are uninsured or underinsured. While all modern-day health plans are mandated to provide some type of counseling benefits, the app is still a newer concept that’s still in limbo with insurers. If the patient’s insurance doesn’t cover the remote counseling services, they’re able to use their health account benefits, where available, to pay for the service and receive the tax benefit.

Talkspace has received another $50 million in funding to help the business grow. The primary contributor is Revolution Growth and its Principal Patrick Conroy will be joining the Talkspace Board of Directors. Other companies that have joined in on this round of funding include:

  • Norwest Venture Partners
  • Omura Capital
  • Spark Capital
  • Compound Ventures

New Funding to Expand Services

Talkspace reviews indicate that there are a variety of services available and some of the most recommended services are those of niche groups including seniors, teens, and couples therapy. The company is looking to expand these services and make them available to a wider range of clients.

Its also been reported the Optum Health will be joining in a partnership with the company. This would provide nearly five million people with the opportunity to take advantage of their services. Other types of therapy that are commonly sought out include the following topics:

  • Addiction issues
  • Anger
  • Anxiety
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Career and workplace concerns
  • Impulsive behaviors
  • Conflict and differing opinions
  • Depression
