Fatal dangers to your diet – Parties – By Nazima Golamaully

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

This is the season when you’re often invited to join large family reunions, or to party with friends … and food. And even if they’re welcome to break your daily routine, food can be a major stress for you after you’ve spent a whole winter thinking of your health, diets and how to lose weight. Let’s review several battle tactics that will help you resist the food temptations:

When going to parties, don’t think about the food

Remember that parties are an excuse for you to enjoy your time with friends and family, not to try as may new dishes as possible. Focus on the party itself and on the people you haven’t seen for some time. Catch up with the latest events in their lives, make jokes and laugh; this will keep your attention far from the appetizing food displayed nearby.

Don’t wear very comfortable clothes

The elastic in your flexible outfit will expand together with your stomach, giving you the feeling that you haven’t eaten enough. On the other hand, when you wear stiff fabrics, you’ll have the feeling that you cannot take one single extra bite without your body exploding.

Walk around with a drink in your hand, preferably water

Replenish your stomach with liquids; it will make you feel less hungry. It’s best to have hot drinks, such as tea or cappuccino, but water will do as well. You can even try a small glass of alcohol, wine for instance. However, keep in mind that consuming alcohol irresponsibly causes headaches, stomach aches and a few extra kilograms.

Keep close to the vegetarian dishes

Sooner or later you will eventually get hungry. You don’t need to refrain yourself from eating anything, as long as you don’t break the line. Anyway, it is best to keep close to the vegetarian dish, from safety reasons: if you’re tempted to eat extra, just eat more vegetables.

Try to stand while eating

You will burn more fats, but you will also get tired of eating faster. While you stand, you’ll probably find better things to do than stuff yourself with goodies. Someone will probably approach you and take your mind off food.

Use sugar free chewing gum after meal

When you feel that you’ve had enough food, chew some sugar free gum. You will still “eat” something, but without any calories.

Relax and enjoy the party

Parties mean meeting your good friends and family, maybe new people as well. They mean food, drinks and good music. However, don’t use them as an excuse to neglect your diet.

8 tricks to control your urge for sweets – By Nazima Golamaully

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

You’re not the only one who gives up on diets, but only you can draw a line between occasional treats and overeating. No one expects you to completely quit eating sweets, but you need to pay full attention to this aspect when you feel you’re loosing control over what you eat.

Don’t yield to the sweets’ temptation

Don’t completely ignore your urge for sweet delights; you can have a candy every now and then, as long as you don’t exceed 150 calories a day. This way you won’t create a psychic discomfort and you keep on controlling your appetite for sweets.

Substitute sweets

When you feel the urge to eat sweets, try to substitute some of them with a healthy food. For instance: when you want to eat chocolate, replace pure chocolate with a banana with chocolate glaze; if you want potato chips, replace them entirely or partially with peanuts, walnuts or toast with honey; when you want to eat ice-cream, prepare yourself a strawberry smoothie or a banana milkshake. Trick your body and your mind searching for substitutes for all high-fat foods you want to eat.

Stop eating sweets for good

It might sound incredibly difficult, but some people can suddenly give up sweets for good. They wake up one day and they say to themselves: “I will never eat sweets again.” This attitude is pretty frequent at smokers; many people managed to give up smoking all of a sudden, without trying to prepare their minds for the change. And it worked! However, don’t get depressed if you’re not one of those people. Each one of us has different ways to react to change and only you can find out the most efficient way you can adapt.

Buy sugar free chewing gum
Try to replace a piece of cake or any other sweet treat with chewing gum, preferably with menthol. Chewing gum has less calories and it partially neutralizes the appetite for sweets. Anyway, don’t exaggerate with chewing gum either, as it can affect your stomach and teeth.

Eat fruits

Always keep a piece of fruit at hand. It’s a smart way to trick your need for sweets and it has the wonderful property of being rich in vitamins.

Choose quality over quantity

Choose high quality sweets over cheap ones. Since you offer yourself a treat, it’d better taste great!

Eat regular meals

I can’t stress enough how important it is for you to eat regular meals. A set eating schedule helps your metabolism work is a faster pace. Eat small meals, every 3-4 hours.
