Why should Musicians Realize Their Album? - By: Olivier Detraz

Finding willingness to achieve an album to pursue a music career could be a means to an end towards self-realization, Maslow's hierarchy of needs calls it self-actualization. Musicians have intentions of doing their album but often are waiting longer than necessary for the right time resulting often in not having any material to show at all. Some use simple tag line such as « Just do it » as their motto yet no matter what works for you it is better to have something in your hands. Once you have it is a business card easy to carry everywhere you go.

The idea is to develop a style. One can decide to keep an album for the shelf once it is done and not distribute it but again the intention of doing it will help a great deal to set the tone. Some people work on their music just because they need to know who they are some because it is fun.

But what is an album? It is an ensemble of songs that tell a story. Sometimes this story is not clear. Usually the album title gives an idea of the direction the artist is taking. There are two kinds of artist the interpreter who is looking for the best songs out there and the artist developing his own voice and tone and this applies to both of them.

An album enables a musician to promote himself and define efficiently who he is and where he is as an artist provided he is finding the right sound and the right people for the album he wants to create. In other words making this effort will help him hear at this point in time the style, the colors, the stories, and his personality as a creator of art.

When challenges arise, problems, conflicts some declare been beat and will not go the extra mile to accomplish dreams. Inspiration is what keeps one going and surmounting is the opportunity to stay on track and show the artistic value of this album. The overall ambitions are different. Artists are unlike one another and that is what makes this whole approach interesting. Aspiration is diverse from career to hobby but aiming at a result helps in crystallizing an idea that can leverage one’s future. Focusing on the intention with preparation and hard work generates new opportunities towards the objective and often produces unexpected results.

A famous adage from Les Brown “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars” summarizes the idea. Evidently one’s drive is critical against self-dissuasion. The role of the surrounding friends, family and partner is significant. Consequently enthusiasm joins in a crucial function in the development of your album. No matter what the outcome the chemistry of support around the artist will define how far it will go.

In order to keep on going an artist should look back at achievements and forward towards goals and should start planning, learn from the past. What worked and what did not and share with others to a certain extend. Sometimes it helps setting a completion date as well. This is almost like a train. There is an inherent schedule to your objectives and means towards achieving them. If you do not go now then the train will go too fast and you will not be capable to go on board. Timing is important. Good luck and get started!
