Ways To Create Flyers That Win Clients - By: charen smith

Flyers are one of the least expensive marketing tools you can utilize. But, you have to make sure your advertising flyer doesn’t have offensive colors and is so busy that the reader gives up after glancing at it for a few seconds. When it comes to flyer printing, these tips will help you create a flyer that will draw in and win clients.

Use photographs to draw attention. Make sure your photograph shows your product or service in action, if possible. Show how it helps other people. For example, if you are marketing a special kind of mop, show someone using it with ease who also has a very clean, shiny floor. You can use multiple photographs, but you need a focal point — one picture should be bigger or brighter than the rest. Put your focal point photo on the top half of the flyer; the top half is the part that gets the most visibility.

If you aren’t using photos, you need some kind of visual element to interest readers. This could be your logo, or text boxes around your copy. Using multiple text boxes allows you to present different levels of information.

Limit yourself to two fonts. Ideally you want to use one serif font and one sans-serif font. A serif font has “feet,” the little extenders off the base of the letters. Sans-serif fonts don’t have feet. Generally, and especially in flyer printing, serif fonts are easier for people to read, so you should use a serif font for your body text and sans-serif for your headline, or larger text. You can also use bold or italics to make certain words “pop”; just be careful not to overdo it, or you’ll lose the “popping” effect.

Don’t overdo it by cluttering it. White space (the area that doesn’t have any text or graphics) is your friend. Don’t feel like you need to fill every inch of the page with text or graphics. This will just make your flyer harder to read and understand. Your advertising flyer will scare readers if they feel like it will take a long time to read all of your flyer. Flyers are not for in-depth reading; treat it as it is, a short, informative glance at your product.

A big attention-getter is a discount or coupon. People like to try things for free or for a discounted price. Make an offer that will draw people in to read the rest of the flyer. This ties in to creating a call to action. This is something that you are telling the reader to do, such as “Call now” or “Visit our Web site.”

Make sure you are letting the readers know what you can do for them — use “you” instead of “I.” Readers don’t care about you, they care about how you can help them.

One last tip is to check local ordinances so that you know where you can hang your flyers or if you can hand them out on the street. A big gaffe would be to break a law while trying to promote your product!
