Tips on Electrical Safety - By: Figowang

Generation 3 Electric has been servicing the electrical needs of the Philadelphia metro area for three generations. Bill Lutz is an electrician with Generation 3 Electric in Philadelphia. Here, he talks about tips on electrical safety you need to know.
Getting your old electric box replaced
If your electric box is over 30 or 40 years old, you should get it replaced now. And you will save money and hassle rather than wait for an urgent situation. Take the time to compare prices and schedule an appointment with a recommended licensed electrician. Otherwise you will have to shell out more later if you are faced with a sudden emergency.
Having your breaker box inspected
Once every five years, a homeowner should call an experienced electrician to inspect the breaker box, and make sure that each and every breaker is tightened and screwed. This is because as a mechanical piece of equipment, the breaker can loosen or become damaged.
A simple loose breaker can cause a breakage failure which might lead to an electrical fire. A loose connection will also put ¡°noise¡± on your circuit. And you will get worse quality power which translates into inefficiency as well as worse quality picture and sound on your high definition entertainment system.
Updating your old wiring
If the wiring in your home is over 60 or 70 years old, you should get it replaced now. New wiring is far better than the older system that was installed half a century ago as safety standards and technology have increased over the last 50 years.
If you have an older house, you should definitely get the wiring updated the next time you remodel your home. Also take the chance when you break into walls to have the old wiring system replaced, which will prevent electrical fires and surges in addition to breakages. Safety should always be a priority and you are less likely to get shocked with new wires. Less noise is in your electronics with newer wires, insuring the highest quality picture on your TV and the cleanest sound on your stereo system. New wiring systems are also more isolated from one another, which protects against surges and allows for more power per room for your many appliances.
