The Link Between Obesity and the Brain - By: Dan Brathers

Researchers have noted that unhealthy diets can help a system in your body which also helps the individual's body to devour even more food than usual. This could help explain some of the causes for obesity.

When these signals (which have a protein that is associated with inflammation) were obstructed in mice, they kept their normal measure of weight.

However, an expert did warn that the information found could not lead to a helpful drug that fights obesity. The researcher believed that this could cause problems in the immune system.

The difficulty of the controls in the human appetite and metabolism has become very comprehensible through the years as opposed to the earlier understandings of how they function.

Although there has been very promising conclusions and results from experiments performed on animals, the ultimate breakthrough against obesity has still not been found.

The relationship to obesity was found when scientist examined a low-level condition that is seen in many obesity-associated illnesses, called metabolic inflammation.

During the experiment with mice, the researchers noticed that, when given a high sugar, high fat diet, a protein would be switched on when connected to inflammatory reactions.

Once this protein was switched, the researchers noted that the mice would eat more. This would convince them that this would involve the direction of the intake of food.

The researchers examined the brain a bit closer, particularly the hypothalamus. This area has more to do with regulating energy. They noticed that that particular protein was present in that area as well.

The mice were able to keep a healthy level of weight, even when they were on a high fat, high sugar diet. They were able to keep these conditions because they were genetically altered to block that path.

The person who led the research, Dr. Dongsheng Cai, believed that this particular pathway could be used to fight against obesity.
