It is known to have high levels of anabolic properties as muscle builder in a person attributed to its androgenic capability compared to testosterone.

Since it dissolves to an inferior compound easily than testosterone, it causes side effects on the hair and skin of humans. Pro hormones bodybuilding supplements such as androstenedione have been classified as steroids because they meet most of the pharmacological criteria for being branded as steroids for testosterone enhancement.

These supplements have the features of molecular properties that are identified with testosterone. They were also discovered not belonging to estrogen, corticosteroid or progestin, to be considered as dietary supplements. So, why can’t pro hormones be listed as anabolic steroids?

Pro hormones bodybuilding supplements have not met the 4th and ultimate factor in order to consider them as anabolic steroids. This factor is their ability to work for muscle growth as testosterone boosters. This is the only criterion that could not be proven to-date. Researchers have found out that pro hormones bodybuilding supplements have no ability to boost skeletal muscle of a person towards resistance training.

One of the chemicals contained in pro hormones, the so-called androstenedione was not made in such a way that it could deliver what the manufacturers claim that it works for muscle growth. There has been a rumor in the bodybuilding supplements industry that pro hormones will come up with a nasal spray.

If this happens, pro hormones will intentionally violate their medical provision as dietary supplements. Many users are blaming the sellers for promoting these products as having the capacity for muscle growth when in truth they can’t, and this is the only missing link to classify the product as anabolic steroids with ability to function more than a testosterone.

At the moment, they are classified as anabolic in the field of pharmacology. Another conflicting factor that can become a legal basis to consider pro hormones as anabolic steroids is its known medical definition that is similar to the ultimate criterion which is - "building up of the body substance."

If this definition can be made in reality, then, pro hormones can be stripped of their status as dietary supplements for bodybuilding, and would then be classified as drugs. Another possibility of their being listed as drugs would be as adulterated food.

A dietary supplement can be considered as an adulterated food if it causes some risks of side effects in bodybuilding which are not mentioned in the product label if taken unreasonably, or any inadequacy of information which is not indicated on the label.
