The Batteries of A Mobility Scooter - By: Dan Brathers

Mobility scooters has become one of the most efficient and sought after pieces of medical equipment, especially as the baby boomer population continues to age and other sicknesses occur. These people are gradually losing their natural ability to get up and walk around or move on there own. The invention of the mobility scooter reinforces this shortcoming and brings that sense of independence back to them.

For those who are unsure, a mobility scooter is a battery-operated mechanism which allows the person to maneuver around an area by themselves. Because this device is battery-operated, you won?t have any concerns about power outages or brownouts. Batteries are a very important part of the machine (as a matter of fact, some would consider them the heart of the machine), so it is important to keep the batteries and good shape.

Most batteries have a lifespan of about two years, but that isn?t completely written in stone. There are many factors that determine how long the batter can last. Factors such as how long you use the batteries, the amount of time you spend to charge the batteries, and where you store the batteries are key elements as far as determining how long your batteries will last. One key method to keep the batteries always available is to recharge them every time after you are done with your scooter. It?s best to keep them going for nearly 12 hours.

Scooters come with only two types of batteries: AGM and gel. AGM batteries are a bit cheaper than gel batteries and they do perform better under shorter circumstances. Gel batteries demand a full recovery after discharging even if the battery isn?t recharged immediately. They are great for daily use and will perform excellently with long discharges. Both have their pros and cons; however it all depends on the individual.
