Stimulants & Zoloft for ADHD: Effective & Safe or Perilous? - By: platofreud

Children using Zoloft for ADHD? Are you ribbing me?

In my former psychotherapeutic practice practice, we would offer Zoloft for adults with pretty severe psychiatric difficulties. And now we are prescribing this dangerous stuff to young children& teens.

When you're thru with perusing this article, you will see why Zoloft may not be the greatest option for helping with ADHD.

Ok, I'll admit, though it's not a usually approved treatment for ADHD, Zoloft has been known to assist in diminution of symptoms of ADHD in some people. Zoloft for ADHD is often offered in addition to stimulants like Ritalin and Adderall.

The grounds for why Zoloft and stimulants are used in a mixture is because many people who suffer from ADHD also have problems with other disturbances such as depression, OCD, anxiousness and others. Zoloft may also be helpful in treating the hyper-focused case of ADHD versus the unfocused type.

The prime difficulty with prescribing Zoloft for ADHD management is its grievous side effects when taken unaccompanied and in combination with other drugs.

Potential side effects of Zoloft include anxiety, panic, irritability, hostility, sleeplessness, impulse problems, and mania.

In addition to psychological side effects, Zoloft can also cause physical symptoms such as muscle tissue shakes, flu-like symptoms, problems with speech, severe skin rash, jaundice, cardiac palpitations, and fuzzy vision.

Consuming Zoloft for ADHD management poses the most dangers when taken in combination with other drugs. Example, using Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOs) even two weeks before consuming Zoloft can be deadly.

Dangerous side effects can also happen if a patient switches from Zoloft to another serotonin selective reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) drug.

One of the more problematic aspects of children and adolescents taking Zoloft and ADHD treatments is the aggression, homicidal behavior and suicidal thoughts that may result. This has resulted in plenty of lawsuits against Pfizer, the company that makes Zoloft.

There have been numerous stories in the media about adults and children who have committed or attempted to commit homicide after consuming SSRI drugs like Zoloft.

In fact, the two adolescents who shot down their classmates and then themselves during the Columbine shooting were consuming SSRI drugs.

Finally, like most extremely strong prescription medication, research studies which help determine danger are all short-term. There are no studies on the impact of Zoloft on ADHD when used for a decade or more. Such studies are too impractical and expensive.

And, yet, understanding what we now understand about how the seeds of many adult disorders are implanted in childhood, do you doubt that using powerful ADHD prescription drugs can very possibly result in grievous disturbances in adulthood? I do not.

So don't go tossing the stimulants & Zoloft out of the window. Using herbal alternatives for ADHD requires thinking and qualified medical professional help.

But do look into alternate, safer treatments to powerful prescription medications.
