Spring is Sensual in Port Townsend - By: Leticia Huber

In the magical Port of Port Townsend, all things can happen.

You can walk across the street from your house, and find the path that will guide your steps along the side of the legendary Kah-Tai Lagoon.

The Kah-Tai Lagoon is the original site where the aboriginal tribes of the area would (and still do today!) gather every year.

They used to gather here to heal - in the Sacred Energy that even today, compels many who still vividly experience such special force in this area...

The "Ancients" also came here to trade; and, in a different way, even today, you can find true treasures in the hand-picked selection of the Native American stores, Down Town, on Water Street...

If your preference aims for Victorian treasures you'll be pleased to find those in the architecture of the many private and public Victorian buildings in town -as well as the very interesting several Antique Stores...or delights of all sorts in the many Art Galleries, and fun, original and very becoming pieces of clothing; for decorating; for your very personal space; or for the kitchen and the home, in the diverse and splendid owner operated boutiques.

By the side of the Lagoon, you can sit and feed the Mallard ducks, or observe the Great Blue Heron, tirelessly standing on one leg -and, every year- the many other exotic birds flying over your head -sometimes including the mighty flight of the majestic Bold Eagle.

On the trees...rarely, with chest feathers red like fire, you might get to see the Red-breasted Sapsucker , looking for insects trying to hide in the bark.

For many birds of the world, this is their yearly migration path. A migration path, that you can share, over the Kah-Tai Lagoon-park.

As a bird watcher, you'll enjoy the Finch, the magnificently blue Stellers Jay, busy building their nests...the Black-capped; as well as the Chestnut Backed Chickadee, one of the most pleasant birds in cities and parks according to Chris C. Fisher, author of the splendid book "Birds of Seattle and Puget Sound" who, when it comes to the gentle Black-capped Chickadees, finds "...They even seem to greet the walkers along the trails..."

Breath-taking coloration on the feathers of the chest of some mid-sized songbirds such as the Tanagers, Starlings and Waxwings as well as The Robins, you will find in yards as well as the Kah-Tai Lagoon.

And of course, at the Lagoon, always the ducks and, near by, at the Marina, the seagulls, living and playing in that area!

Even you could walk all the way, amongst the splendid tall poplar trees and small bushes yellow with perfumed spring blossoms.

At the end of your walk, you would just need to cross a street named "Kearny" to find the glorious one-of-a-kind-Food Co-op...For a revitalizing fresh juice, a tasty soup or a one-of-a-kind say..."apple, fennel and raisin" salad from the Deli...?

If not for this, you might enjoy going just to meet "the Locals", and/or visit for the joy of their scented, colorful organic -and mostly- local fruits, herbs and vegetables.

One way or another, the Food-Coop here manages to always be a pleasure.

Of course, if you wanted to keep on walking, you could also enjoy sidewalks - sometime bursting with small bright yellow flowers- capable of emerging from the tiniest cracks on the cement, -as well as from any yard or flower container, on your way to Down Town.

Poppies of all colors will greet you on your short way ...

If, instead you choose to go Up Town (to find other interesting stores, another Victorian Movie House, and several gourmet restaurants to stimulate your appetite and your curiosity) You'll be very pleased with the blooming gardens you'll see on your way...not to speak of the before mentioned -and all prevailing- Victorian architecture, the lovely old trees, and the view of the Puget Sound waters on three sides of the town.

In short, Spring in Port Townsend is colorful (in many ways) scented, rich in experiences for all the senses, and very fun for the sport lover, the gourmand, the artist, the Nature lover and the Architect and historian in you!

And, if all this is special and charming; what makes you feel really welcome In Port Townsend is that we love good company!

In Port Townsend, we love to pamper you spoiled!
