Southern California Vacations: Something For Every Interest - By: J. Michael Key

With such diversity in recreation options, it is no surprise that millions plan Southern California vacations each year. It does not matter what type of outdoor activities you are into, there are so many choices in SoCal it will be hard to decide what to leave out.

If you have visions of fishing, hiking, boating, mountain biking and swimming you should visit the area known as the ‘year round mountain playground'. In the mountains of San Bernardino the option of renting a cabin and spending all your time in the great outdoors appeals to many. There are just as many things to do in the winter as in the summer. When the snow flies, the skis come out and snowboarding, hiking and building snowmen are a few of the pastimes that can be enjoyed during this season.

If you are on a budget, there are affordable options for recreation in the mountains and deserts. The summer is perfect for camping at an affordable price or roughing it in one of the "bare essentials" cabins. If money is not an object, there are very luxurious homes as well. Of course, for those who require the in-between there are cabins available for them as well. The desert areas offer dozens of golf courses of varying appeal (and cost). The local mountains and desert areas offer delightul building blocks for memorable Southern California vacations, and should not be missed if you are the type that loves to be in the wide open spaces rather than the city.

Of course many people go to this area of California for the theme parks; there are seven major parks. If this is a family vacation that your children have been waiting on, they are going to love southern California. Dad will love the area for the abundance of golf courses and Hollywood will be a favorite with the whole family. In addition, Southern California vacations provide many opportunities for shopping, various museums and cultural events.

With a whole host of activities such as train rides, zoos, deserts, ghost towns and farms there is sure to be something for everyone. Many of the activities are free or a nominal charge, so if you are traveling on a budget, this will help. You can find all sorts of activities that are not costly. One of the best cheap activities is to hit the world-class beaches between Imperial Beach (San Diego) and Malibu.

Wine tours and balloon rides and festivals galore are part of the southern California vacations experience. If you are looking for a departure from the hum-drum work schedule, you will find there are so many activities here to enjoy that you will not even think about work.

California vacations have something to offer for everyone, from the little ones to the adults. You will definitely find this is an area for those who are looking for something out of the ordinary. It will be hard to choose what to fit into the schedule. Do some advance planning after spending time online in research. Decide ahead of time what your priorities are for this vacation. If you just play it by ear, the week (or two) will go by too quickly, without an opportunity to visit all the destinations on your list. Having too many options for fun is a nice problem, but be smart in your planning efforts.
