Some NFL Players Aren't the Smartest Set of People- NFL Players Breaking the Law - By: M. Anderson

NFL players routinely turn up in the arrest wires for committing stupid crimes. These guys are typically making millions of dollars, but yet they can’t get their act together and just behave like normal citizens. It has humiliated some publicly and may have got them suspended for a short time. Some can't seem to keep their career or their contract because of their self-indulgent behavior. And, the stupidest conduct award for the past two years go to the following 5 NFL players.... Although normal human behavior is not always present in the NFL, this listing will only show those players who have done illegal things away from the gridiron.

5. Tank Johnson- Tank Johnson was arrested on numerous occasions, which ultimately resulted in the Chicago Bears passing on him and on him getting a half-season suspension. His first arrest was at a nightclub and he was charged with possession of a handgun. At another nightclub, his apparent hangout of choice, Tank was charged with aggravated assault after an incident with a police officer. Tank was then arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms, including assault rifles. Being nicknamed Tank does not mean you must arm yourself as if you really were one! Finally, Johnson got a speeding ticket, while being mildly impaired and the Bears let him go. The Cowboys picked him up following his suspension.

4. Cederic Benson - He is the second Chicago Bear to be listed and the Bears released him right after his second arrest in 2008. The currently unemployed former NFL halfback was once a first round draft pick. How can he regain his reputations when boating while intoxicated was his first arrest? He goes and drives his car intoxicated, getting a DUI. His teammate with the Bears has gone on the commit more crimes, but with talent, he should have no trouble finding employment. Sadly, a skilled NFL player will be able to earn money no matter what charges they might face.

3. Chris Henry: he made a name for himself in the arrest logs. Previously a wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals, he had five run-ins with the law in less than three years, including DUI, drug possession, and gun related charges. During the last part of the 2006 season, he missed two games due to suspension, and then in 2007, another legal incident caused the Bengals to cut him after he had already missed half the season's games. Chris Henry always finds the crime and has a knack for getting caught. He’s been tackled more by police officers than by defensive players over the last 3 years.

2. Pacman Jones - He would top the list but he is still under contract with an NFL team so he will be allowed to play again. Pacman got into one problem after another, one of which was a deadly shooting in a nightclub. He then tried to show NFL commissioner Roger Goodell that he was reformed by showing up late to their meeting, having lost track of time at the local strip club, the very type of establishment he was not supposed to visit. As this list indicates, performance on the field is more important than involvement off the field; and many players who get in trouble once often get a second chance. Furthermore, who do you assume made the choice to give Pacman (only Adam now) one more try? Micheal Irvin whose a former superstar for the Dallas Cowboys troubled and in part of the counsel.

1. Michael Vick - Michael Vick is likely to be considered the least intelligent player of late in the NFL. This is because although he was involved in less legal incidents than others on this list, he is the only one serving a multiple year jail sentence. In addition, since he was Michael Vick, franchise player and superstar, he stood to lose the most, and he lost all of it. The public was outraged and certainly let him know it after his arrest for dog fighting, totally ruining his reputation. His NFL career was ruined, costing him millions; and, he ended up having to serve a lengthy jail sentence. Michael Vick, congratulations on the number one spot.

There are your five dumbest NFL players of the last several seasons. Amid fierce competition from hundreds of other potential candidates, these men have proven themselves to be unrivaled in this very difficult field.
