Self-Improving: Being A Better You - By: Pamela A Trone

Someone once told me that happiness was not a destination, but a journey. It comes from within and is entirely up to us.

Be the best you can be! How many times have you heard this? Have you ever really made a commitment to achieve it? I sincerely believe that we unfortunately rely on those around us to make us happy and make us the best we can be. In reality, it is not up to anyone else. Only you can achieve it. Taking responsibility for our own thoughts, actions and emotions is the part that we all seem to miss. We cannot ever become the best person and achieve our ultimate purpose if we don't take care, custody and control of our own lives.

I believe that once we make the decision to become a better person, emotionally, spiritually and physically, we have already taken the hardest step on the journey. Realizing that we can become more.

Who Are You Really?
Are you the person that others know? If you asked ten people to describe you, what would they
say? Would they describe the same person you think you are? Would it be the person that you want to
become? Who exactly are you? What is your passion? You have take the time to figure this out. Make a list of the top 5 qualities that you want to posses and then work towards achieving them.

Belief
You have to believe that you can be the person you want to become. You have to believe that
you can be a great person. You have to believe that you are worth the effort. You have to believe that
the changes you make will be a benefit. Close your eyes and see the person you want to become. Visualize yourself already achieving the goals you want. Tell yourself what its going to be like when you are (fill in the blank).

Responsibility And Ownership
Most of us fail to take responsibility for the things that only we can control. Our feelings, actions and words. We give ownership of our ourselves away every time we blame another person. Someone or something cannot make you feel or say anything. Only you control those functions. There are certainly a lot of things outside of our control. How we feel is not one of them.

Talk Nicer To Yourself
What do you say when you talk to yourself?
One of the biggest reasons people have low self-esteem and low self-worth is not because of what others say to them, its because of what they say to themselves. Do you treat yourself the way you want others to treat you? That little voice inside your head, or voices for some of us, is one of the things that you can fix and it will have one of the greatest impacts on becoming a better you. Learn how to do affirmations. They are little comments and statements that you say to yourself. For example: “I am a great person” or “I love people and people love me.”
There are a lot of really great websites that can teach you how to write and do affirmations.

When we try to look outside for happiness to find us, we begin a search for something we will never truly find. It can't come from things or people. It has to come from you. You are responsible for your own happiness. You are the one who has to feel it and own it. You can become a better you!
