Ricoh R10 and Pentax K-M Digital Camera Review - By: Richard Walker

In the world of professional cameras, the Pentax K-M digital SLR camera comes across as a pleasant surprise. While most cameras cater to professional and expert photographers who are well versed with a SLR camera, this camera is tailor made for the new entrants into the world of SLR photography.

Let's have a look at some of the features of Pentax K-M:

1. The body of Pentax K-m is compact and lightweight in spite of its large image sensor. The body of the camera has a stainless steel chassis and a Shake reduction mechanism which has been slimmed down with the help of the modern techniques. The circuit boards and battery section has been repositioned to use the space as economically as possible.

2. Easy operation: The buttons and the levers of the camera have been positioned in such a way that the camera is easy to operate. Most of the controls are situated on the grip side of the camera and each control's function can be understood on the LCD monitor by pressing the help button.

3. Shake reduction technique: The SR or the Shake Reduction technique was developed by Pentax and is now available in the Pentax K-M camera which enables the camera to give sharp images despite the elements and other external conditions. This involves a built in sensor and high speed position shift in the image sensor.

4. Dust Removal mechanism: This mechanism prevents dust settling on the captured images due to the Super Protect (SP) coating on the CCD image sensor surface. IT also has a Dust Alert function.

5. Auto Picture Mode: The Pentax K-M automatically selects modes required from a choice of Macro, portrait or Landscape and even Night scene portrait. Moreover all the other settings like shutter speed, aperture, saturation, contrast and sharpness have an auto adjust function for a great picture.

Besides these functions the Pentax K-M has other functions like high-speed continuous shooting, 5-point auto focusing system, high quality image, auto sensitivity and a large viewfinder. This camera is definitely a must have for those who want to make it big in the world of shutterbugs!

Ricoh R10

Ricoh has been around in the world of cameras from a very long time. However surprisingly it has a line up of merely 8 cameras in the last 10 years. The new Ricoh R10 is the latest in these cameras.

The R10 has a great and easy to use menu system that is quite logical. You can get used to it in a short period of time. For the most used commonly used options, you have the adjust and function buttons. It also offers customization of the function buttons as per your preferences. There are more options in the playback menu such as the picture reviewing screens, resizing, level compensation and skew correction.

You can choose the size of the image you want and even the compression you need (normal or fine). The aspect ratio is adjustable and has three options of 4:3 or 3:2 or 1:1.

Ricoh R10 has a quick focus mechanism and has a quick shutter response on the prefocus function. It has a quick flash recharge time and you can take a shot every 1.5 seconds, though you cant use the flash in the continuous shooting mode. The speed while continuous shooting is pretty high at 2 fps and it has some great playback and menus.

The Ricoh r10 is quite easy to use and is quite intuitive. On the whole a great buy for people who love to click!
