Obesity and Its Consequences - By: Abdullah Salim

Body fat is actually a good thing. Though too much of body fat is dangerous for health. However, body fat helps in protecting internal organs, locks body heat and softens blows.

Too much fat however, is bad for health and can be extremely dangerous as obese people are prone to disorders and diseases. Obesity doubles or triples the chances of dying prematurely as compared to people who are at their normal weight.

Weight can be measured through the Body Mass Index or BMI which should be less than 30. BMI which is greater than 30 is classified as obese, while BMI of 40 or above is classified as grave or morbid obesity with serious health risks involved.

An obese person has an increased health risk and weight increase from an insurance point of view is also a disconcerting point. With increasing level of obesity, health risk increases and danger of contracting diseases also increases. Such diseases include diabetes, arterial hypertension, fertility anomalies, cardio vascular diseases and cancer. Other issues include anesthetic accidents as obesity has risks involved when a person has to undergo a surgical procedure and anesthesia has to be administered.

When we keep certain parameters under control, risks can be reduced quite significantly. If one decreases weight by as much as 10%, research demonstrates that it can be extremely beneficial. Probability of risk factors of cancer, diabetes etc reduces, particularly in terms of mortality rates. A small amount of weight loss can bring about great health benefits.

So how much weight loss should be beneficial? How do we define it on a risk index that the amount of weight loss is going to be beneficial?

We can use the BMI index to define how much weight loss is required. After calculating BMI, we need to measure the waist and understand how much fat is stored in the abdominal area since abdominal fat has a direct link to health risk related to obesity.

Waist measurement is a very useful measurement when BMI is less than 35. Waist measurement should be less than 88 cm for women and 102 cm for men in order to decrease pathological risk factors associated with obesity.

It is advised that weight loss should be the goal when:

BMI is higher than 30
Or if BMI is between the range of 25 and 30, waist measurement is greater than 88 cm in women and 102 cm in men.

There are several pathological risk factors involved with obesity like diabetes, cardiovascular issues and respiratory problems. It is better to reduce weight and reduce these risk factors.

One should try a weight loss program that is available in hospitals and clinics. Trying a weight loss program that is healthy and balanced can help not only reduce a lot of weight, but is also beneficial for general health as it can reduce the pathological risk factors associated with obesity and fat. One does not even have to follow a very restrictive or exhaustive diet for weight loss.

How to use Alkaline Water for Weight Loss:
Alkaline ionized water can also be used for weight loss. Alkaline water is one of the best ways to reduce acidity from the body as it helps wash out all acidic waste and impurities from the body. Since it eliminates all acidic waste from fat cells, we see a natural weight loss. It also helps release fat. Alkaline water decreases acidity. Since alkaline water is ionized in nature, it flushes out harmful toxins from the body and prevents free radical damage. Once fat cells are not required any more, the body works to eliminate them from the body. Fat then completely melts away!
