Networking Training Companies In The UK - Options - By: Jason Kendall

Were it not for a steady stream of trained network and PC support workers, industry in the United Kingdom (and around the world) would surely be brought to its knees. We have an ever growing requirement for technically able people to support both the users themselves and their networks. With the increasingly multifaceted levels of technology, growing numbers of IT professionals are being sought to look after the various different areas we need to be sure will work effectively.

Accredited exam simulation and preparation packages are a must - and must be offered by your course provider. Ensure that your practice exams haven't just got questions on the right subjects, but additionally ask them in the exact format that the real exams will formulate them. It really messes up students if the phraseology and format is completely different. A way to build self-confidence is if you analyse your depth of understanding by doing tests and practice in simulated exam environments before you take the actual exam.

So many training providers are all about the certification, and avoid focusing on what you actually need - getting yourself a new job or career. You should always begin with the end goal - don't make the vehicle more important than the destination. It's a sad testimony to the sales skills of many companies, but a large percentage of students begin programs that seem fabulous from the marketing materials, but which provides the end-result of a job that is of no interest at all. Try talking to typical university leavers for examples.

You must also consider your feelings on earning potential and career progression, and how ambitious you are. It makes sense to understand what the role will demand of you, what particular certifications are required and in what way you can develop commercial experience. Obtain help from an experienced professional that 'gets' the commercial realities of the area you're interested in, and who can offer 'A typical day in the life of' synopsis of what duties you'll be performing during your working week. It just makes sense to discover if this is the right course of action for you before you commence your studies. What's the point in kicking off your training only to discover you're on the wrong course.

Quite often, students have issues with a single training area which is often not even considered: The method used to 'segment' the courseware before being delivered to your home. The majority of training companies will set up some sort of program spread over 1-3 years, and send out each piece as you get to the end of each exam. If you think this sound logical, then consider this: What if you find the order prescribed by the provider doesn't suit you. What if you find it hard to complete all the modules within the time limits imposed?

In an ideal situation, you want ALL the study materials up-front - enabling you to have them all to return to any point - irrespective of any schedule. This also allows you to vary the order in which you move through the program if you find another route more intuitive.

Any program that you're going to undertake should always lead to a nationally accepted qualification at the finale - not a useless 'in-house' diploma - fit only for filing away and forgetting. From the perspective of an employer, only the major heavyweights like Microsoft, CompTIA, Adobe or Cisco (as an example) will get you short-listed. Anything less just won't hit the right spot.
