Publishers, regardless of size, can generate revenues from their websites or blogs. That is one of the many great things about the online industry, especially when you own your domain name. To be an online entrepreneur, you do not need years of experience or academic degrees; you do not have to be a marketing expert, a confident webmaster or an advertising wiz.

Monetizing your website means generating profit from website marketing campaign. You can do it in so many different ways. Many people these days are looking for ways to make money on the Internet - people who are looking to create revenue from having a website or blog.

When considering how you will make money with your website, be sure to use several of the resources available today to check and double check your calculations. Making money online takes work and can be harder than it looks!

You may have a website that is not selling anything but rather has a lot of good content and a lot of traffic. You can find similar websites and blogs online that do exactly the same. But notice that the majority of such ventures have advertisements in one form or another.

Depending on the nature of your design and especially content, you can easily blend in the adverts and not be too intrusive to the viewer. In short, build a site around your unique knowledge and ideas.

Doing research, I have found a few credible ways to monetize a website or blog. They are not necessarily listed in a chronological order. You may implement some and skip others. Some of the more commonly used methods are Ads Networks (CPA, CPM, PPC, In-Text), Affiliate marketing, ebay, ebooks, build your own directory, sponsored reviews, RSS feed Ads, and some others that I have mentioned on my website.

What's Publisher?
For our purposes, we define a publisher, as an independent party that promotes the products or services of an advertiser in exchange for a commission on leads or sales. A publisher displays ads, text links, or product links on its website, in email campaigns, or in search listings and is paid a commission by the advertiser when a visitor takes a specific action, such as filling out a form, making a purchase or subscribing to a service.

Successful Publishers
Those publishers suited best for performance marketing have some consistent characteristics:

1. A website designed for a specific niche of consumers or audience. While not all publishers have content sites, it is a simple way to enter into the pay-for-performance industry and a solid foundation to build upon if you later branch out to other marketing channels such as search engine marketing
2. Basic HTML skills to be able to insert and track advertisements such as banners, buttons and links
3. A set amount of time per day to dedicate to the program depending on number of websites
