Improved quality and quantity of sleep is crucial for the body to be able to rest adequately and have the opportunity to heal and regenerate itself. Bondeson cited the declaration of the National Institutes of Health that adults require eight hours of sleep each night.

The old adage that laughter is the best medicine was also upheld by the author. She even referred to findings of cardiologists from the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore that “a strong sense of humor may even help protect you against a heart attack.” She said this is so because laughter increases both the blood flow and amount of oxygen in the blood even as it lowers the blood pressure.

While laughter should be encouraged, smoking should be stopped, Bondeson emphasized. She again quoted Dr. Stein of the American Heart Association who said “The benefits of stopping smoking are extraordinary. Simply put, you’ll add years to your life.” Bondeson furthermore cited the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services findings that 440,000 die prematurely each year because of smoking.
