Low calorie diets are based naturally on low calorie intake. The mechanism functions on the principle that the body will burn fat if the necessary energy is not provided by food. Low calorie diets are hard psychologically! It's darn hard to continually give up all the foods you love. Low calorie diets are not meant to be permanent as they can stop being effective. This is because on such a low calorie intake we run the risk of not taking in enough vitamins and other nutrients that our bodies need to function healthily.� This means we must be very selective about the choice of foods we eat and to ensure that we use the body’s metabolic rate to best advantage.� Failure to do this effectivley could mean our bodies go into starvation mode and conserve the very fat we want so much to lose.
Low calorie diets also lead to binge eating. After long term use of such a diet, your body loses only water and muscle, but very little fat. Low calorie diets have been around for a long time. Probably longer than any other kind of diet. Low calorie diets work for a short period, but they should not be maintained for a long period of time. Your doctor may recommend that you cut your calories back to get the ball rolling with your weight loss plan, but more than likely you will be advised to increase your caloric intake later on.
Eat foods that are high in nutrients and fiber, and low in fat. That way you are eating more food with less calories, rather than less food with more calories. Eating protein this often will provide plenty of energy without the need for eating carbohydrates throughout the day. In fact, you will find you are satisfied and less hungry for carbohydrates. Eating smaller amounts is not going to satisfy you until your stomach becomes used to the new regime. Such diets may help in loosing kilograms but the overall nutrition requirement of the body is not served hence leading to complications.

Fat is nothing more than stored calories so if you burn up those calories you will gain a much leaner appearance. Fat cells in the abdomen release fatty acids into the portal vein, which goes directly into the liver, where they interfere with the liver's job of breaking down insulin, thereby increasing the amount of insulin circulating in the body. This sets off a vicious cycle known as insulin resistance: with more insulin circulating, cells grow more resistant to what it does-regulate the metabolism of sugars, protein, and fat-and so produce even more liver-damaging fatty acids. Fat-free processed foods will definitely pile on the kilos if you eat too much.
