Facial vitiligo is a very bad situation in the life of a vitiligo patient. As the face gets a white spot it almost disturbs the psychosomatic state of the person’s mind. One can feel embarrassed and get into deep depression after onset of facial vitiligo.

Vitiligo is also known as 'leucoderma'. In India, it is called 'safed kod' or 'safed dag' and is considered as a social stigma. Vitiligo is appearance of single or multiple depigmented patches on any part of the body.

These patches gradually increase in size & cause lot of psychological stress in the patient. It is an auto-immune condition and may have a genetic predisposition.

Treatment of vitiligo usually takes a long time. Medical treatment helps arrest the spread of depigmentation and in some cases, may bring back the pigmentation.

In majority of the cases, medical therapy only achieves stabilization of the vitiligo patch but fails to cause repigmentation.
However, repigmentation in cases of 'stable vitiligo' can be achieved by various dermatosurgical techniques.

Leucoderma is a type of skin disease caused by the inability of pigment cells (melanocytes) to create melanin. In leucoderma, white patches or pigments are formed on the surface of the skin.

These can develop from birth or may occur later in life. The white patches can develop due to a host of reasons. Sometimes the terms vitiligo and leukoderma are used interchangeably. Vitiligo is a special type of leukoderma. It refers to a condition when white patches develop gradually.

Causes of Leucoderma

Many health experts believe that the main causes of leucoderma are excessive mental worry.

Chronic or acute gastric diseases can also contribute to leucoderma.

Person who has impaired hepatic function (as in jaundice), worm infestations or other parasite infestation in the alimentary canal is prone to have those white patches.

Other falling factors have been identified for this disease could be pressure from tight clothes or certain occupational hazards like wearing certain rubber hand-gloves, using tattoos over the skin etc.

Natural Remedies for Leucoderma

Powder around 35 gm of the seeds of radish and mix it in 2 tsp of vinegar. Apply it on the white patches 2 to 3 times a day.

Apply the juice of the leaves of the vegetable goosefoot.
You can also have it directly 2 times daily, once in the morning and again in the evening for 2 months continuously.

Soak 500 gm of turmeric in 8 liters of water and boil it till the quantity of water is reduced to around 1 liter. Strain the liquid and add 500 ml of mustard oil in it.

Now, filter this mixture again and apply on the patches 2 times a day for around 2 months.

Mix equal quantities of ginger juice and red clay and apply it on the affected area. Fill a copper vessel with water and leave it overnight. Drink this water during the day.

Drink ginger juice as it increases blood flow to the affected area.
Go on week-long juice fast and follow it with another week's controlled diet where you eat only fruits, raw and steamed vegetables and their salads and juices.
