It is believed that misuse of athame inflict harm on the owner. That means it absorbs the negative energy instead of the positive energy. A negatively charged knife provides negative results. In fact it is not the knife which is bad but it is the user who has evil purpose. The sacred knife has to be utilized for human development and for their well being. It should be used like the other ceremony tools.

The blade or athame is used in protection rituals. After reflection you should handle the athame and think that the protection energy is being channeled to the blade through the hilt. The other is love ritual when you use athame. These rituals work and the blade becomes potent through the energy you put in it. Cleaning and purifying the blade is vital after the rituals. Athame is considered to be a magical knife required in pagan rituals. Many people practicing this religion use athame and wand simultaneously as it is believed both represents different elements in the rituals.

The owner should be careful about giving the athames to other people because this magical knife is considered to be very resceptive. Therefore it is not prudent to let others handle it for purpose.
