Learn Safe Work Strategies with RSA QLD Courses - By: Bruce Markey

The restaurant business is fraught with perils for owners, managers and staff. Australia’s hospitality industry is strictly regulated in many States, and personnel who come into contact with, or serve alcohol are required to possess Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certifications in these States. It is mandatory for anyone working in the hospitality and liquor industry in Queensland to have a current RSA certificate provided by an Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation (OLGR) through an approved training organisation. Through the RSA QLD training course, they will learn about local and state liquor legislations in Queensland, Australia. Aside from this, they will also learn how to aid customers in drinking within their limits, and other RSA skills necessary for preparing and serving alcohol responsibly. The course aims to provide staff with all of the knowledge and training necessary to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for all of their patrons. Queensland RSA students have the advantage of being able to take their courses face to face or online, and are eligible to work as soon as they pay for, complete the course and print out their certificates.

Why is the course necessary? In Australia it is against the law to serve alcohol to an intoxicated person, and penalties may be severe if the case is proven. No one needs either the lawsuit or the guilt that could accompany a fatal drinking and driving case. Building a mutually beneficial relationship with a cab company could prevent those sorts of complications. RSA QLD courses provide students with strategies for managing intoxicated persons and preventing ugly scenes. Violence is another reality of working in the service industry. People make bad decisions when they are drunk, and follow through on threats or arguments that could be ignored when a person is sober. Glass bottles have been banned in high-risk establishments, but anything can be used as a weapon in the wrong hands. For the safety of patrons and staff alike, it is important that everyone know how to defuse tense situations, or call for backup in the form of other staff reinforcements, or the authorities if things truly get out of hand. RSA QLD graduates have those skills. Accredited certification must be obtained within thirty days of starting employment. RSA QLD courses are valid for three years and then another accredited certification must be completed. The course takes between four and five hours to complete either face to face, or online. The online advantage is the ability to leave the course and come back to it when time permits.

RSA QLD certificate aims to give employees the skills to deal with difficult and intoxicated customers, understand the legal responsibilities and ramifications of serving alcohol, ensure a safe environment for staff and customers, and generally improve the atmosphere of a venue. Attending a club or bar without fear of being attacked and assaulted is a big draw for patrons and should be one of the goals of the licensees. One must follow the rules in order to succeed in the world of the hospitality industry.
