Before suspension of your registration, you'll receive a warning from the Motor Vehicles Department. That notice will request verification. If such a notice does appear in your mailbox, it's a good idea to contact your insurer to help you rectify the situation.

Until you are able to provide clear evidence of insurance, your registration may not be renewed. However, it may not be your fault. It could be that the company providing your coverage is not licensed to operate in New Mexico, or they failed to report your coverage. It is up to you to be certain that you will be working with the right company.

A certain level of NM insurance is mandatory, but it can be affordable. Of course, prices will be higher if you choose to have comprehensive coverage. Check the Internet, or speak with a local agency for quotes. Make sure you are properly covered, and drive safe.
