Laptop Repair – The Easy Repairs Of A Keyboard That Can Be Done At Home - By: Andre Issey

Deciding whether to repair or replace your laptop is a tricky choice. Buying a new laptop can seem like the easy option, but it can involve hidden costs and be incredibly time consuming. For example, re-purchasing and reloading software can be very expensive and sometimes may not work at all on a newer machine. Problems also often occur when migrating your music, pictures, movies and settings to a new laptop. If these files were purchased online, they can often only be used on a few machines, meaning you could find yourself having to re-purchase these documents.

Broken screen, power supply issues, corrupt hard drives and so on. All pretty big jobs that require professional expertise and knowledge but often computer keyboards (usually laptops and notebooks) are thrown away because of a few minor repairs or cosmetic damage. These include things like broken keyboards, wet hard drives, RAM failure, hard drive installs and more. So before throwing away that damaged laptop keyboard repair it, or get it repaired because it will probably be easier and cheaper than you think. Please read below and remember, you can get spare parts from all the big brands (Toshiba, Apple, Sony Vaio, Fujitsu, HP, Acer, Compaq) online or from local repair shops for lower prices than the manufacturers. This often includes brand parts too.

First Step:
If keys are becoming sticky, buy a can of compressed air and spray it on the keyboard if your keys are sticking together. This is the easiest thing you can do to fix the keys on your keyboard and the best place to start.

Second Step:
Remove any problem keys from your keyboard and look at the plastic retainers. At times these retainers can become broken, damaged or simply fall off. Carefully pull off the retainer, clean it off with some compressed air and snap it back into place. Then put the key back into the slot and everything should work fine. Should!

Third Step:
Replace the inside of the keyboard with a new piece. One of the major problems with laptop keyboards is that the plastic pieces holding the keys in place often become loose or broken. Find a cheap keyboard from any retail outlet and simply take apart the new keyboard, pull the keys off the laptop keyboard, lay the plastic piece on top and replace your keys.

If you have tried all these steps then you could consider it being other that intrusion of some sort of the keys. Sometimes the locking clip and connector base on the laptops motherboard can become loose. If this were the case, you may well want to consider getting your laptop repaired by a professional.

Fourth and Final Step:
Remember if your laptop’s keyboard is completely broken and is out of warranty; consider buying an external keyboard (ensuring that it has a USB output so you can plug it directly into your laptop)
