Kick the Excuses to the Curb - By: Craig T. Calvin

It is all about being efficient in what you do, whether it is in the workplace or organizing your home. With all of the demands on your time these days, and because the world moves so fast, you need to be able to prioritize and keep the important things in sight. But you also need to be able to do what needs to be done as efficiently as possible.

This means that the jobs and processes that consume your life should be broken down into smaller sections and reviewed to see if there is any room for improvement. Most individuals do this is one fashion or another already. Think about the route that you drive to work each morning and home again in the evening. Do you take the long way into work or do you take the most efficient and quickest route? More than likely you are taking the shortest distance between work and home.

You do this for a good reason, so that you can leave your house in the morning at the very last minute and still make it to work on time. This way you have either more time to sleep or more time to spend with your family. These rules of efficiency work well for your personal life and for getting done the things that you want to get done, but the same sort of discipline and efficiency should be applied to the things that you don’t necessarily want to do.

If there is a job that needs to be done why not just get it done in the most efficient way possible and as quickly as possible. Most people, it has to be something to do with human nature, take longer to get a task done that they do not like to perform. Whether it's procrastination or not having the willingness to put their full effort into the job or not looking for the most efficient way to get it done because they do not want to start the next task, it does not matter why.

Whatever it is, there is usually room to improve the way it's done, but it takes a little extra work upfront and it takes the commitment to get it done. Sometimes, becoming more efficient and speeding up a process is just a matter of committing to the idea that it needs to happen and to lose the excuses of why it can’t be done.
