Kerala, a place nicknamed as ‘God’s own Country’; a place which was chosen by the National Geographic magazine as one of the ten paradises in the world; a place which is one of India’s most visited tourist destinations; and a place which is so rich in natural beauty, cultural and historical heritage.
Throughout the length of the state there are a number of tourist spots. Any part of Kerala has one or the other tourist spot nearby. Here in this article, I am going to give you small descriptions about some of those places. The list is not complete; these are just the prominent ones.
Bekal Fort: This fort is situated in the Northern district of Kasargod. Bekal Fort is standing tall, reminding you of the old times, and overlooking the Arabian Sea. Watching the sun set from this fort is an amazing experience.
Wayanad: Wayanad is a popular hill station in Kerala. The ride from the nearby district of Kozhikode to Wayanad through the Ghat roads, during morning is truly awesome. The famous historical Caves of Edackkal is situated here. Other places of interest are Kuruva Island, Pakshipathalam, Mananthavady etc.
Silent Valley: Silent Valley is a National Park situated in the district of Palakkad. The place got its name due to the strange absence of crickets in this evergreen forest. There are many exotic and rare plants and animals in this region such as the Lion Tailed Macquaque and Grizzly Grey Squirrel.
Kappad and Beypore Beaches: Both of these beaches are located in Kozhikode district and have historical importance. Kappad is where the Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama first landed in India. Beypore is famous for its sea trade with the Arab nations from old times.
Munnar: It is the most famous hill station in Kerala. Munnar underwent a transformation in the early 20th century as the British rulers started growing tea in and around Munnar. Now Munnar is abundant with tea plantations, forests, waterfalls and many things more.
Kochi: This city has many wonders in store. Marine Drive, Fort Kochi, Hill Palace, Bolgatty palace, Mattancherry are all major places of interest.
Kovalam Beach: This is one of the most popular beaches in India. Kovalam is situated in the southern district of Trivandrum. It is a favourite hangout of foreign tourists visiting Kerala.
There is no dearth for hotels and resorts in Kerala. Every tourist spot has a number of hotels and resorts with excellent accommodation facilities. You just need to pick the right one for you.
