Reeves moved around the world frequently as a child and he lived with various stepfathers. After his parents divorced in 1966, his mother became a costume designer and moved everyone to Australia and then to New york city. There she met and married Paul Aaron, some sort of Broadway and Hollywood movie director. The couple moved to help Toronto; they divorced with 1971. Reeves' mother wedded Robert Miller, a rock promoter, in 1976; the couple divorced in 1980. The girl subsequently married her fourth husband, Jack Bond, a hairdresser, a marriage that split up in 1994. Grandparents and nannies babysat Reeves together with his sisters, and Reeves spent my youth primarily in Toronto. Just a span of five a long time, he attended four several high schools, including the Etobicoke School in the Arts, from which he was later expelled. Reeves claimed he was expelled "... because I was greasy and running around a lot. "

Reeves excelled even more in hockey than with academics, as his instructional development was challenged as a result of dyslexia. He was a booming goalie at one of his high schools (De Los angeles Salle College "Oaklands"). Reeves began his acting career at age nine, appearing in some sort of theatre production of Really Yankees. At 15, he played Mercutio within a stage production of Romeo and Juliet in the Leah Posluns Theatre. Reeves made his screen acting debut in the CBC Television comedy series entitled Hangin' In. In the early 1980s, he shown up in commercials (which include one for Coca-Cola), short films such as the NFB drama One Action Away[6] and stage work including Brad Fraser's cult hit Wolfboy in Toronto. With 1984, he was a correspondent for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation TV youth program Going Excellent.

He was also linked to various lower-budget independent films, including the well-received 1991 dvd, My Own Private Idaho together with his close friend, the late River Phoenix. In 1994, Reeves' career reached a new high as a result of his starring role inside action film Speed. His casting inside film was controversial due to the fact, except for Point Break, he was primarily recognised for comedies and indie dramas. He previously never been the sole headliner on a film. The summer action film had a fairly large budget and had been helmed by novice cinematographer-turned-director January de Bont. The unexpected international success of the film made Reeves together with co-star Sandra Bullock inside A-List stars.
