Kate Beckinsale - By: Cary Salas

As soon as she awakens, she discovers she has the ability to see through the little brown eyes of another creature, the one that set her free. Alas, it isn't her much loved Michael. It's an adolescent girl named Eve (India Eisley), who, enjoy Michael, is a vampire/lycan cross. Could she be Selene's little girl? This possibility is generally accepted by way of the characters, although that raises several logistical questions that are generally frankly too intelligent for the likes of this story. For the sake of hard work, let us assume that she is indeed Selene's daughter and progress with the story. Eve, known by lab experts as Subject #2, has been the pet project with Dr. Jacob Lane (Stephen Rea), the head scientist for a significant bioengineering company; true to form of doctors in movies this way, he wants to employ Eve's DNA for his well-known nefarious purposes.

Awakening is not really as visually noteworthy since its three predecessors, perhaps because the tone may be altered to be more in line with sci-fi medical thrillers like the Resident Evil flicks. Having said that, most of the series' stylistic touches stay, not the least of which are the scenes of relentless action and wonderful effects. Like her brand skintight black leather suit, Beckinsale is almost never seen with out a gun in each side; she will repeatedly shoot at things, mostly lycans, and we'll marvel at the number of bullets a single handgun can hold. When a gun isn't within reach, she will arm herself which includes a knife and use her super speed to do through lines of people, slitting them to death. And of course, she continues to flaunt her ability to jump from extremely high points and land smoothly.

Apart from Eve and Dr. Street, other new characters are introduced. These would comprise: David (Theo James), a vampire who includes Selene and Eve and is eager to fight money of all vampires; David's mother, Thomas (Charles Move), who isn't as eager to fight; and Detective Sebastian (Erina Ealy), a human with personal reasons for helping Selene when Eve is kidnapped by the pack of genetically modified lycans. None of them are particularly well developed, but then again, they didn't should preferably be. More of note is the fact that Underworld: Awakening is the first of the series being released in 3D. Since film was actually shot that way and not converted with post production, I found it to be effective, if somewhat dim (although it isn't as dim as I had expected, which was an agreeable surprise). There's no harm in seeing it that way, although I don't think the experience will be lessened if you happen to save your money and listen to it in 2D.
