The Importance Of Bearing Lubricants Can Be Seen Through Good Running Machines

People have known about the importance of bearing lubricants and the technology of lubrication since the days of the pyramid building. They knew even then that if something was slippery it would reduce the friction on the different moving parts involved. Just like back then, most lubricants are an oil or a a grease that are derived from some sort of animal fat or vegetable oil.

The reason you need to have lubrication on anything moving part is because when parts slide together they cause a lot of friction and the power that is present to make something move or slide can reach a critical level. Then the heat from the extreme friction will cause parts to have basically a seizure and the parts could actually bond together or they could end up being burned to the point of becoming unusable.

When properly lubricated, there's going to be less friction. The film of grease or oil that is put between the different parts that are sliding together is going to help the parts or bearings roll a lot smoother and again causes less friction. This reduces the coefficient of the friction and reduces the amount of force that is needed to move the parts.

It's also important to note that when the friction is reduced then the wear on bearing rings and other rolling pieces and when there is less wear and tear on parts the entire unit is going to have a lot longer lifespan. It also reduces the fatigue of the parts as well. The thicker the lubricant is, the longer the fatigue life is of the parts.

It should also be pointed out that having part well greased or oiled is going to also help the circulation. When the parts of a piece of machinery are well oiled the friction heat is going to be carried away from the parts in the machine. This heat will be moved to the outside. This then cuts down on any further overheating and deterioration of the oil.

When items in machines have enough grease on them it will also help to keep out any foreign materials. Often foreign materials can accumulate in machine parts when not properly greased and this then can lead to corrosion as well as rusting. Either one of these conditions can and will eventually break down the parts and cause the machinery to malfunction or quit working altogether.

Even though lubricants are highly effective to keep machinery working properly, understand that even the lubricant has it's own operating life and you will need to reapply lubrication on a regular basis in order for you to maintain the life of your piece of machinery.
