Karaoke – Steps To Take To Prevent Yourself From Being The Most Awful Act Of The Evening - By: Felicity Lightbody

Its the day of the work social and a Japanese style Karaoke bar has been chosen as the activity and you secretly believe your the next Amy Winehouse, but your fairly nervous of the pressure of singing in front of everyone, don’t worry this is a perfectly natural response. Your attitude on the night can make or break your karaoke recital. If you don’t want to be eclipsed by an upstart in your office, watch what you smoke and drink, at least until your performance is over, otherwise you may sound like Barry White not Amy Winehouse!

So be sensible, take time the day before the karaoke night to select up to 5 of your best songs, just in case someone steals your song, make them all ones you know the lines to very well and preparation makes perfect. Sing the songs to your dad a couple of days before the karaoke night and take on board their advice and ask for useful criticism.

Some tunes will just stretch you too much, its probably best to get someone to pick a tune that they think fits your voice and if you stop over stretching your vocal chords above its natural range then you should perform admirably.. Pick songs that you like yourself and your enjoyment of the tune itself will inspire you to make your song really stand out..

Stay hydrated by drinking lots during the course of the day, having a well hydrated throat and vocal cords is critical to have a high quality performance and if you smoke try to stay clear from them on the few hours leading up to the song, it can twist your singing voice and deep breathing techniques will probably calm you more. Have a little warm up by belting out a few tunes is also a good hint but clearly avoid notes out of your personal reach and no straining or it will impair your performance.

A good hint to avoid being a laughing stock on stage is not to shout the tune and to stay confident in your own ability and not strain when trying to talk to your mates if you are in a loud bar. In fact, ignore pointless discussion that over strain your vocal chords as this can be to the detriment of your performance.Spending an hour before you get on to Karaoke stage, chain smoking and swilling down strong Vodka and shouting at your mate about how awful Vicky from human resources looks by the point at which you get on stage your all ready pre disposed to give a bad song.
