Job search via Temporary Recruitment Agencie - By: Jonathan Walker

Employers often need to appoint staff on short term contracts, to fill jobs that will only exist for a limited time. Seasonal jobs in Agriculture or in the retail industry in the run up to the Christmas period are just two examples. Temporary vacancies, perhaps due to ill health, will, of course, only last until that employee recovers.

Temporary recruitment agencies specialise in providing cover to accommodate such needs. Although it may be tempting, a temporary employee should beware of falling into the trap of starting to hope that at the end of his temporary contract he/she may be offered a permanent contract. This rarely happens. Indeed the system tends to discourage it. Recruitment agencies always have contracts with the employers; contracts that enable them to claim a considerable recruitment fee if the initial temporary employment eventually becomes permanent.

In any case, the employer will normally be recruiting for a job that will simply not exist when the contract period runs out. This would either be because the additional workload has disappeared or because the person, whose absence had created the vacancy, had returned.

Temporary employment contracts, especially a sequence of them, may suit some people "just fine". Because of the potential lack of continuity of employment, temporary contracts often command a higher rate of pay than permanent or longer term contracts. Schools and hospitals, for example, often depend on this kind of person to cover for absent staff.

Not only that, but some people who already have some seasonal work, and who like it and want to retain it, may find they can fill in their out-of-season periods with temporary contracts obtained via temporary recruitment agencies.

Then there are those who have recently qualified and are just starting out on careers. Through temporary contracts they can "try out" differing employment outlets, to gain experience and decide what kind of role they prefer before "settling down". For some, there may even be something to be said for being able to make one's adjustment to the world-of-work, and then being able to move on with no questions asked.
Whatever your reasons, if you are seeking a temporary employment contract, the temporary recruitment agencies are there to help you.
