Isn't The SSR Interesting? - By: Mykalanne Gutierrez

If there was a job assigned to review the Chevy SSR & the Chevrolet SSR Wheels , I would first state that I have no idea if the SSR was a truck or a regular car., & I'd make that known with everyone. When it comes to the Factory Original wheels, I’d say they are pretty darn nice for a car that’s a mix between a truck & a typical compact vehicle.

SSR stands for Super Sport Roadster. The SSR has a top that can retract like a regular convertible - so I guess that you can say the SSR is a convertible Pickup truck that was produced by Chevy between the years of 2003 & 2006.

The Chevrolet SSR & the Chevrolet SSR Rims were based on the design of the TrailBlazer that Chevy had previously manufactured. They included a “retro” type of styling for the hardtop & it was designed by a company called ACS. There was an earlier model of the SSR in that was shown at the Detroit Auto Show in 2000.

The 2004 Chevrolet SSR & 2004 Chevrolet SSR Rims had sales that were below expectations. It had a record of less than 9,000 sales in the United States for $42,000 each. On November 21, 2005, GM released a statement that said they were going to cease manufacturing on these SSR’s. The last & final model was made on March 17, 2006 .. isn’t that St. Patrick’s Day? I think they should’ve painted the car & the OEM 2006 Chevrolet SSR Wheels green .. but that’s just me. Analysts say that there was an approximate 24,150 models made & about 24,112 were available for consumers to buy. So if we do the math, there were 38 models that weren’t sold for whatever reason.

The Chevrolet SSR models & Chevrolet SSR Wheels were advertised in a 60 second commercial that first appeared on television on December 31, 2002 .. which was New Year’s Eve. The commercial had the title of “An American Revolution, Car Carrier”; it had a number of six cars & trucks that had yet to be introduced to the market.

The thing with this car is that even though it was designed to be an SUV / Truck, it only had 2 seats, a small bed in the back, & couldn’t haul anything heavy like a regular pickup should. Some critics say that the only thing the Chevrolet SSR had to offer was uniqueness & individuality. If you just so happen to take a ride up the street, you’ll see that no other car looks like the SSR. Some people may even say that the style of the SSR reminds them of a car that was designed in the 60s or maybe even the 70s .. I really can’t say agree or disagree because I was born in the early 90s.

Since the SSR had a two-piece retractable hardtop that was placed & put away vertically between the seats, this permitted “open-air” motoring while minimizing the room that’s usually lost when a top is lowered in a regular convertible. Even though this may seem all fine & dandy, the SSR had some problems .. like all great things do. It had build quality problems, had a performance that barely met expectations since it had an immoderate curb weight, & was too expensive for most people to buy.

Regardless of how good or bad the Chevrolet SSR’s were in style or how it was built, I can guarantee you that there will most likely not be another car that will come close to looking like it or the Chevrolet SSR Rims .
