Is it wise to wear skirts in winter? - By: Andre Issey

Now that the chillier weather is setting in this December, many people think turning to trousers and coats is the only way to stay both stylish and warm in winter. However, believe it or not, it is okay to wear skirts in this season; it’s just a matter of finding how to wear them and the correct styles to suit you.

Wearing skirts doesn’t just mean cotton mini’s and styles above the knee and wearing them in winter doesn’t have to be a cold experience at all (however if you are craving to show a little skin then there are of course alternatives). The skirt and legging style for instance is huge this season. Wearing a skirt whilst still presenting a flattering shape to your leg and allowing a skirt over the top is a great way to set off a new pair of wintery boots.

There is also the option of pairing knee or thigh high socks with your skirt allowing a little leg to be shown, but not too much to feel the cold. This style is often seen on celebrities such as Rihanna or Kate Moss; two style icons who can’t afford to not show off their fantastic figures this winter.

Another alternative to skirt wearing this winter is to go for a warmer material and longer length. If showing off your legs is not really your style, but you’re getting a little bored of trousers, try going for a woollen material below the knee. Jersey fabric is also great for a comfortable and warmer wear in the colder weather.

For plus sized women, A lined and high waisted skirts are the most flattering style to choose this season. Black is also a great colour for creating the perfect shaped curves and plain material is perfect for matching and finishing off any classic outfit. Although, as a little tip try to avoid skirts with layers or ruffles. They may look good in a shop window; however these types of features add size to the outfit and could potentially look very unflattering.

If deciding to wear a skirt to work, high waisted designs with plain colours such as black and blue look great with a brighter shirt tucked in, and what’s more you can alternate leggings with patterned tights for a more sophisticated or laid back approach each day. This style is also great for creating a curvier bust line, as ruffled or patterned shirts direct attention to the upper body.

Wearing a skirt is wise if it’s styled and worn correctly.
