Is There Such Thing as Responsible Drinking in College? - By: Alvin Hanson

When talking about life in college, no reference can be made without mentioning parties. In that regard, no party can be mentioned without mentioning alcohol. There is nothing new about alcohol and drinking that will add to the knowledge of students. Everything was already said about the effects of alcohol from a medical perspective as well as from the behavioral, so this article will not stand from the position of a doctor, nor the preacher. If the drinking habits of college students could not be changed by scholarly researches, they are unlikely to be changed by a brief article. Nevertheless, this article will try to explain what constitutes responsible drinking, taking the position, if you are to drink in college, then do so responsibly, with the least possible consequences.

The Company

Making things clear, it should be noted that in no way drinking alcohol is promoted in this article. Accordingly, this article is guided by the principle of what will bring the last harm. In that regard, the importance of the company with which you drink can be considered among the most essential aspect in responsible drinking. Having an alcohol in a company with someone who does not know his/her limit is a bad idea. In that regard, choose your company carefully. Most of the time students slip to increase their drinking habits under the influence of their peers, where having someone who still wants to continue partying lead to a competition of who pass out first. When it comes to parties and drinking, your best friend is a non-drinking friend.

Justification

It should be stated that having fun is not related to the amount of alcohol, and if it perceived this way, then it is time to reconsider your lifestyle. Alcohol is not a condition to have fun, nor is it an essential element. Thus, setting drinking as the purpose is a wrong idea, which leads to harmful consequences. It should be stated that you should abide to the laws of your country/state, which set specific age limits to alcohol consumption. Thus, if it is illegal, there is no way alcohol drinking can be justified.
