Is Mediation a Good Professional Career to Consider in 2011 and 2012? - By: Craig Simons

In this time and age where disputes are hard to pass by, the need for a mediator is slowly gaining popularity. To seek or not to seek a mediator is no longer the question, but seeking the best mediator in the market is, A mediator is trained personnel whose work is to bring two disagreeing groups families or companies to an agreement and at the same time maintaining the integrity of the different parties. The need for mediators is becoming more pronounced now as the courts are getting bloated with unheard cases being backdated from several years ago.

The cost of defending oneself through legal proceedings is becoming quite expensive and people are running for the help of a mediator. Unlike in the past few years where mediators were learned personnel in the profession like the retired judges or lawyers, nowadays that is slowly fading away. Even those who do not possess legal papers or qualification are opening up mediation centers. The basic learning on mediation is found from mediation centers coupled with high integrity and motive behind ensuring that the clients’ needs are met

The ideal individuals who can do mediation work include those with high level of integrity. These are individuals who will not be easily swayed to favor one side. A lot of wisdom is also required to ensure that both parties are satisfied with the ruling/agreement. Confidence is also a must for mediators as without this trait one will surely not be able to control and have the last say in decision making.

The reputation of the mediator need not be compromised as these will result in mistrust from either party. Where a mediator is in a position of alleged compromise it is important for the mediator to be the sane party and not to allow oneself to be tossed about. The mediator should stand his ground and perform what he is expected of him without favorism or malice.

Court cases have the jury deciding ones fate, which might favor or disfavor the other party. This is not the case with mediation, as a mediator will look for ways and means of satisfying both parties without favour. The deal will not be struck if one party is not satisfied. The mediator seeks to find a neutral ground in which to settle scores and promote peace and harmony.

Finding a mediation job is not difficult with nearly all government bodies, commercial companies, plus private companies seeking for a mediator. Mediation jobs are paying quite well with individuals getting up to more than 26,000 dollars to around 23-45 dollars an hour. This is almost more than three times a normal lawyer’s job. Though this is a good platform of employment, it may be a good ideal to find out if your really upto the challenge or not.
