Is It Only Wealthy People Who Invest On The Stock Market? - By: nathboy6fo

Although we used to associate stock trading with those who were regarded as being seriously wealthy, these days the stock market is something that just about anyone can trade on as long as they have some spare revenue to invest. There's not many of us who could afford to lose our money each and every month but trading on the stock market can be great if you get to see your investment grow over time.

When it comes to getting going on the stock market, it would be a great idea to think about the things that interest you. Many people don’t consider investing in valuable commodities such as gold and silver purely because they think they'd need to invest a lot of money. Nothing could be further from the truth. It will only cost you a few pounds if you wish to trade in a few grams of either precious metal. Increasing the value of these metals by dealing is a good idea as the prices are quite low.

It was previously the case that you had to do your investing through a stock broker and this meant paying quite heavy fees. It was usually in the trading of stocks and shares, and for the careful investor, the broker would always suggest buying shares in “Blue Chip” companies. Blue Chip companies are the large, well performing companies that are looked upon as very safe and that tend to pay out dividends at least twice yearly. The other technique for investing through a broker was in “Unit Trusts” whereby many smallish investments were clubbed together to make a single larger investment.

It's now relatively simple to buy and trade shares through an online broker. Instead of paying huge fees to the traditional stock broker who would work from a luxurious office, the fees for online brokers are considerably less. The advice offered by the traditional stock broker was more often than not followed by the client. If the client was extremely wealthy then the stock broker would head out to visit them at their home or office. But online brokers will charge a small fee of about £10 for every transaction.

The theory behind stock market investing has long been “buy low and sell high”. This theory sounds great but it's not always that simple. Of course there are many other methods of trading, including spread-betting and forex trading and it's really down to personal choice as to the style of trade. You need to think about how much money you're willing to invest before you start trading. Once that funds has been laid aside and hasn’t been required for an emergency it is probably the right time to start - with a small investment.
