Is Gretchen Bleiler as good as she is hyped up to be? - By: don robert

Hailed as the halfpipe Queen of winter X-games, Gretchen Bleiler does flare up the camera lens for less than a minute or so, breezing on the halfpipe with ease as spectators watch her gracefully gliding with a breath-taking flip. She was one of the few female famous snowboarders who accomplished the jaw-dropping “Crippler 540” maneuver while competing in a tournament at which she became notably admired by sporting aficionados and took the spot as the greatest of all time.

At his early days learning to ride the glacial loop, his three brothers motivated her to stand out to the challenge. Being a girl doesn’t take her tenacity to compete with other male snowboarders, proving that she has the competitive edge to do big things and dream big. Speaking of big, while she was at the childhood days enjoying snowboarding, she hopes that one of her days as a pro snowboarder, she would join the greatest in the winter Olympics. Thus, in 2006, she accomplished her dreams, nabbing the silver medal at the winter Olympics in Turin, Italy. Overwhelmed by her achievement, Gretchen still strives to surpass her aptitude and competed in various tournaments across the globe.

Having a illustrious career, the media swarmed her, offering interviews and commercial ads. Gretchen wasn’t just an average female snowboarder, she has fashion sense in her, that is why FHM did a shoot on her wearing only body paint and she gladly accepted the offer. She was a popular role model for the youth, attending several speaking engagements for the youth and in the environment too, she is associated with different environmental organizations.

From designing clothing lines from Oakley and K2, to donning different trendy clothes, Gretchen is in mile-high in her career and she keeps getting better and heavier in her purse. Recently, Forbes had a survey and Gretchen was nominated to be one of the top extreme sports athletes that nets $750,000 a year. Making that amount of money is pretty much easy from her point of view, just doing some insane stunts of which, by the way, is really impossible to pull off during crunch time competitions.

As her homegrown roots belong in the snowy Alps of Aspen, Colorado, Gretchen supported the City by attending high school banquets and snowboarding clubs and in return the City honored her as Female Athlete of the Year in 2004 being the most successful athlete of Colorado. Talk about salutation, few of the natural athletes that hailed from Colorado, earned to be honored as the Athlete of the Year award and most certainly, Gretchen rightfully deserves the honor.

Some people call Gretchen Bleiler “The Gwen Estefani of the halpipe” for being a radical snowboarder, doing ridiculous maneuvers leaving her spectators in amazement. From what I see, her future whether it may be in the media and sport, all of it will be successful and most likely, she will go down to the history books as one of the next generation of extreme sports athletes that can set the trend in different repertoire.
