Irregular periods aren't unusual they affect about 30% of women in their reproductive years. An irregular period is any type of bleeding that is abnormal when compared to your usual menstrual cycle.

This can include a late period, an early period or bleeding between periods. It can also appear as particularly heavy bleeding (menorrhagia) or scanty bleeding.

Many women also experience irregular periods in the form of a missed period, continuous periods, or periods that occur twice in one cycle.

However, if a teenager is still missing her period by the age of 16, she should have a full gynaecological assessment by a doctor for hypothalamic failure, hormonal disorders and abnormal genetic make-up.

Symptoms of Irregular Menstruation

Symptoms begin with profuse or very less bleeding. Bleeding occurs apart from the regular menstrual cycle.

The time between two periods is shorter or longer. The menstrual fluid is sticky and stinky. It could be associated with white vaginal discharge.

There will be pain in flanks, back and just above pelvis. Change in mood of a lady is not uncommon in irregular menstruation.

Treatment of Irregular Menstruation

Grind 3-4 fresh hibiscus flowers. They are either red or pink, and their scientific name is hibiscus rosa-sinensis.

Take five red flowers, grind them to a paste, and have this on an empty stomach with water for 5-7 days before the normal expected due date of your periods.

These flowers have an anti-oestrogenic quality, which helps to regularise the oestrogen / progestron balance and initiate the menstrual flow in time.

Aloe-leaf pulp: Skin 2-3 aloe leaves and collect the pulp. Boil it till it becomes brown. Cool.

Home Remedies for Irregular Menstruation

Parsley is one of the most effective home remedies for menstruation disorders. Parsley juice can be taken in a dose of 75 ml every day.

Diet for menstruation - Cooked banana flower when eaten with curd gives relief from heavy bleeding.

Dissolve 2 aspirins, 1/2 tsp. of sugar and 1/2 tsp. of honey into 1/2 cup of water. Drink this solution. This will lead to regular menstrual cycle and is also effective home remedy for menstruation.

Safflower seeds are highly beneficial in the menstruation treatment. It can be taken as a drink by boiling two teaspoonfuls of dried and powdered safflower seeds in 120 ml of water.

Diet for menstruation - Among fruits papaya is highly beneficial when suffering from amenorrhoea.

Menstruation remedy - Half a teaspoonful of sesame seeds powder taken with hot water twice daily helps in reducing the pain. This is one of the effective home remedies for menstruation
