Smoking a pipe is a totally different experience as compare with smoking a cigarette. I would say pipe smoking is an art or lifestyle. Unlike the cigarette, we don’t simply puff in the nicotine through the burning cigarette. Or shall I illustrate smoking in a pipe is like drinking coffee, some like it in a pre-mix form, some like to blend the coffee bean and enjoy making the coffee process.

First, filling up the tobacco in the pipe is the first step to start off with. Like everything in life, do it right in the first time. If a pipe is filled with tobacco improperly, it will cause the pipe burn out and start tasting bitter, you can find out better with your tongue if this thing happens. Hold the pipe upright, trickle the tobacco inside the bowl until full. Tamp it down gently and try to draw on the pipe to make sure there are no blockages. If the bowl is not full filled up, fill in more leaves until the bowl is compacted.

Then, lighting the pipe. This is the moment reminds me when I played with fireworks during childhood. When everything is set, lighting up the pipe will be an exciting moment. Use a pipe lighter or wooden matches. Don’t ever try to use petrol lighter, it will give an unpleasant petrol smell and tastes as the tobacco inside the bowl is an absorbent to any odors. When lighting up a pipe, try to char the top of the tobacco to allow it to catch the flame. Anyway it is the only place that can catch fire. Puff in gently as you light up the pipe.

So you have learnt the whole process, do remember practice makes perfect. It takes a lot of patience for one to master the skill, but if you're really enjoy what you're doing, turn it into a new lifestyle to replace the old one.
