According to legend, a Mongolian army headed for Ili in spring but the weather was cold and snowy. Coldness and hungriness tormented this army. But when they crossed the mountain, another scene presents before the eyes of soldiers. The vast grassland, wild flowers and springs encouraged soldiers so that they gave the grassland the name Narat.
