Inexpensive Ideas to Transform Your Home! - By: Corwin Smith

Do you dare to be different? Do you want to try something new, be the first on your block? Or maybe you can do something new with something old... A self-adhesive vinyl wall sticker or decal makes a very striking impression for a comparatively modest outlay. A huge range of designs in a huge range of sizes and colours are available online; practically anything you can think of is available from giant eyes to tiny birds. Wall stickers will happily go on glass and furniture, in fact anywhere there is a smooth surface. They last for years, are easily removed, leave no glue behind and your neighbours haven’t got one.

In days of old when textiles were some of the most expensive things money could buy it was often unusual to find a rug on the floor where it could be trodden on. Rugs were hung on a wall so the owners wealth and taste could be admired and envied. Recreate that air of bygone luxury by hanging up that holiday bought prayer mat and showing it like the rare and wonderful thing it is. Alternatively, when a treasured garment finally wears beyond repair why not frame it as the much loved memento it is. Specialist frames are readily available online.

To go along with the wall mounted rug it may be an idea to build a Moroccan style seating shelf. A simple painted MDF box at calf height running the length of your living room wall can be made surprisingly cheaply and easily and then you can let your imagination run riot. Cushions galore! Big ones, small ones, plain ones, patterned… when your friends come round and after they’ve gasped in wonder you can all recline in languid luxury and feed each other dates.

So there it is, be the first to put wall stickers up, display textiles like you would a Monet print and build yourself an inexpensive piece of decadence – your neighbours will be green.
