It makes difference how a plant is potted; watering a plant is not difficult. I will give you a few basic tips watering you houseplants. Begin with using tepid water, at about 90 degrees F. Tepid water is just tap water that is warm to the touch. Plants like warm water better than cold water, because cold water may shock plants and cause them to wilt. If you have chlorinated water, let it stand in a container overnight before using it, this will allow the chlorine to evaporate. Never use tap water that is hook up to a water softener unless is also equipped with a deionizing unit that removes the sodium; sodium is used in the softening process. Chlorine or sodium will not benefit your plants.

Plants that are in a standard pot with drainage holes add water until the some water comes out of those holes. You don't want to water your plants to quickly. Water comes out to quickly maybe a sign that soil around ball or roots have become to dry. This tells you that the soil has shrunk and pulled away from the pots walls and the water is just running down the gap on the inside of the pot. None of the water you just applied watered the roots of your plant. When this happens, take the plant, dirt, pot, and immerse it in the sink or a pail of water; cover the top of the soil with about an inch or two of water until you see air bubbles stop rising. After the bubbles stop, remove the plant from the water, set aside and let the excess water drain.

Make a schedule to when you should water you plants. Most plants only need to water once a week. This will keep your plants healthy and you happy.
