Importance of Coaching Institutes in India - By: Shiksha

With competition growing in all the sectors, there are a large number of coaching institutes flourishing in every nook and corner of every big or small city. One can find many big and small coaching centers in India in every locality of a city. Earlier, students were more inclined to self-study and studies on their own, scoring manageably good marks. This trend seems to have gone for a toss with parents, teachers and students looking for just the best scores. Students now need to join coaching institutes to study extra and get those extra marks. It is evident that peer and parental pressure has resulted in this arrangement.

Coaching institutes have now become a new hub of entertainment. Students attend extra classes not only to improve their academic understanding but also to socialize. It has become the next in-thing to join such institutes. Also, it is a sort of networking that helps a student exchange information, notes, books, etc. Education given in schools and colleges in India now needs a helping hand called coaching centers. As students are not satisfied with the education given in schools, they feel the need to go out and look for some extra help. But it sometimes leads to a change in their attitude towards studies, it makes them sluggish as they become excessively dependent on outside help. Amidst all the extra coaching and socializing, they tend to forget that it is they who have to ultimately work hard and score good marks.

The success rate of coaching institutes in India is highly variable, thus, a question on their need and relevancy arises. One is forced to think if a student can manage good scores even without joining a tuition centre. To ascertain the same, let’s take a look at some of the advantages of spending extra money and time on these institutes.

 Coaching centers prepare students for various entrance examinations like BBA, AIEEE, CAT, MAT, etc by using special teaching methods. These institutes provide related study material like mock test papers, refreshers, assignments, etc to enable students to do well in competitive examinations.

 Coaching institutes can act mentors for every pupil individually which is not possible for teachers in schools and colleges. Extra tuitions drill students with befitting information that proves opportune for entrance or other competitive tests. Moreover, they encourage pupils to discuss their problems and doubts more openly.

 Another advantage of extra coaching is that they provide guidance to students on crucial matters like how to study, what to study, etc. One is familiarized with question paper patterns, frequently asked questions, important chapters and topics, etc. Tuition centers cover the syllabus in detail saving time and energy of students in running around, collecting notes and references.

 Indirectly, coaching systems are functional in creating a proper study time table for many students. They usually introduce a study routine in a student’s life inspiring them to work harder, that too, in the right direction.

Some people feel that coaching institutes are only a means of making money. They believe that education in India has become a business for many. According to them, it is a deal that these institutes make with the students to help them in clearing an exam. Coaching centers charge high fees from students promising to prepare them for competitive tests and for getting them into their dream college. But both parents and students are ready to bear the costs as they think it is worthy if a child can really get in the desirable course and college and build a successful career.

Ultimately, scoring well depends on a particular student’s caliber. At a time when there were no coaching centers, students still cleared examinations only by self study and infallible focus. Even today, students may not feel the need of extra help if they believe in sheer hard work and tenacious determination.
