Ignatius Piazza's Goal of Family and Individual Safety - By: Jayden Adams

Ignatius Piazza was at home in 1988 when a drive-by shooting targeted some of the houses in his neighborhood, including his. While he escaped injury, Dr. Piazza realized that even though he had guns, and had practiced at a local firing range, he did not really know how to use them to defend himself or his home. The tools of personal defense were there, but the skills were not. Had the random shooting become a home invasion, he would have been helpless, even though "trained" in his weapons.

However, Dr. Ignatius Piazza did not simply hope it wouldn’t happen again or do nothing. He was completely aware, as is anyone reading or hearing the news in the United States today, that such incidents are all too common, and often have a far grimmer result.

Ignatius Piazza began a three-year process of training in use of firearms, and at the end of that period he had earned Expert certification in pistol, shotgun, carbine and rifle. His intense study and persistent practice helped him to become the world's second Four Weapons Combat master. He had also gained the desire to get others the training in firearms. He wanted to give others the certainty that they could defend themselves and their families. As he had already discovered, just having firearms, and doing some target practice, did not give you the certainty and peace of mind that if the time came, you'd know what to do.

Dr. Ignatius Piazza continued his training, but was also observing training methods and course formats, with the goal of putting excellence in firearms knowledge and handling within reach of others.

But the whole drive behind his study and practice was to ensure that others would not have to suffer the terror of being a victim of the violence of others.

Thus in 1996 Dr. Ignatius Piazza founded Front Sight Firearms Training Institute. He originally opened Front Sight in California, but Front Sight Firearms Training Institute was quickly moved to Nevada, and is located near Las Vegas. It has world-class facilities, with plans for expansion. And true to Dr. Ignatius Piazza's original goal, it is family-friendly. There are classes and practice for all ages from 5 years on up. Children learn to be aware of their environment, without being made frightened. They learn about "tricky" people (the coded word for child predators) and how to avoid trouble. Front Sight Firearms Training Institute's graduates gain self-confidence in their ability to handle themselves and their surroundings.

Adults have available courses in handguns, shotguns, and other weapons. While there is, of course, live ammunition firing, there are also "dry practice," allowing the improvement of gun handling, leading to greatly increase safety. Just knowing about guns, having accurate information, lessens the fear, and puts you more in command of situations involving guns.

The end result is what Dr. Ignatius Piazza envisioned: individuals and families who are safer because of their accurate knowledge and skill with firearms.
