Ice-Breakers for the First Night in Student Accommodation - By: Arthor Greenwald

Moving into a student home full of people you don’t know can be quite an intimidating thing; but you’ve got to remember that everyone is in the same position as you. Therefore, being prepared with fun things to do/say when you first move in is a good way to help relax yourself and others into the student lifestyle. Everyone will be apprehensive about meeting new people, and anyone that says they aren’t…well, they’re probably fibbing! House Hustler offer fantastic student homes and they want to make sure that the students within these homes are happy; so here’s a tips on how to break the ice on your first night.

Obviously you aren’t going to want to suggest that everyone plays a game or participates in typical ice-breakers that you’re probably going to come across in your first few lectures, but there are some games you can play that are fun, and not too personal for the getting to know each other. Start by finding out and getting used to each others names, what courses they’re studying and where abouts they’re from. You’ll find asking simple questions such as “Was this university your first choice?” and other general questions soon gets the conversation flowing.

Later when you are perhaps all ready to go out for the night, have gathered in the kitchen of your student home or whatever, why not play the game “If…” The game works by each person asking the question “If you won a million pounds what would you do?” The questions are quite far-fetched and out there so no-one feels uncomfortable as though they’re talking about themselves, but they still give each of you an indication of what type of person they are. For example, if someone said “I’d give all mine to charity” and someone else said “I’d have a new body!” you will grasp different personalities.
