IRA Investment and Your Financial Future - By: Adolfo Macdonald

A retirement plan is a tool for helping a person save up enough funds in order to support any expenses they may have when they are already retired. Having a retirement account with enough funds to support a preferred standard of living is good enough for most people. However, there are some who would prefer to have a bit more disposable income. More often than not, these are the individuals who want the means to be able to do or purchase all the things they could not in the past.

People have different plans for when they retire. There are individuals who would prefer to retire in a quiet countryside. Some would probably prefer something with a waterfront view. Some individuals will want to travel around the world. The more adventurous people will want to do activities such as sky diving, swimming with sharks or climbing Mt. Everest.

Depending on their plans, there are various retirement options people can choose from. There is a plan for each person’s specific needs and financial capacity. A Self Directed 401k, SIMPLE IRA, traditional IRA and any other retirement plan available all share something in common. All retirement plans need funding. The three sources of funding for retirement accounts are interest, regular contributions and investments. Since the Individual Retirement Arrangement or IRA is one of the most common retirement options, we will discuss IRA investment.

More often than not, the majority of funds in a retirement account will come from regular contributions made by the participant or in the case of plans such as the Self Directed 401k, the employer as well. Another main source of funding for a retirement account after contributions would be profits from investments. IRA investments are not that different from other methods of investment. In IRA investments, the retirement funds are used to finance ventures with all the profits going back to the accounts. This is where a retirement account’s real advantage can be demonstrated. Every retirement plan features tax breaks. In most retirement plans such as the IRA, the contributions and the profits from investments are not taxed until after the funds are distributed. This makes an IRA account a very useful tool when it comes to investments. IRA investments are very lucrative ventures.

There are many ways to invest IRA funds. Most of the time, IRA funds will be invested in stocks, bonds and other similar monetary tools. One very popular IRA investment nowadays is real estate. It is an investment with a long term nature that provides above average gains. This sort of investment may require more capital than typical ventures but the tax advantages of a retirement account will compensate for the higher costs. Another good way to invest IRA funds is to purchase franchise rights for businesses from established brands.

People should make sure they know what they are doing when it comes to IRA investments. How successful the investments are will directly affect the standard of living a retirement account can support. Living out retirement on a nice house by the beach is surely better than living in a crowded apartment block.
