IMDb Movie App Now Available For All Apple Devices - By: Paddy Chang

IMDb the main source for movies and tv shows is difficult to find your way round on a mobile web browser. There’s a ton of information to navigate your way around, and I usually end up clicking on a link I don’t want to goto as I stumble my way round the website in the mobile’s browser.
IMDb have realized that their mobile users experience is not good enough. Late last year, the IMDb developers rolled out an app designed for the iPhone only. When the iPad hit the scene this spring, IMDb updated its app so that it’s now optimized for all of Apple’s devices. Regardless of whether you’re looking up a movie or TV data on your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad. If you’re the sort of person who wants easy access to information about movies and TV shows, this is a must have addition to any mobile device.
All the information you would look up on the IMDb Website cast lists, actor credits, reviews from critics and other IMDb users, and more is available via the mobile app. IMDb simply lists the top billed actors you can tap on their names to see what other movies they’ve appeared in or you can tap a link to get a full cast list on another screen. It’s a very sensible approach to managing the presentation of a lot of data.
The app is a lot better on the iPad, which gives the app a larger screen to work with and also allows for use of multiple panes and pop up windows. Now, when you tap on the link to see the entire cast list of a movie, it appears as a separate, scrollable window overlaid on top of the main screen. The same thing goes on pages for individual actors when you opt to see their entire filmography–it, too, shows up as a separate window, giving you the information you want without forcing you to tap your way back where you started.
Nice touches like that exist throughout the IMDb app. IMDb lets you view trailers, but the video player is built right into the app; when you’re done watching, you go right back to where you left off. An omnipresent IMDb button lets you jump right back to the app’s Home page if you want quick access to the main menu of search categories. A lot of lesser apps would make you hunt and peck your way back to the start.

When some people start to shoot a video and air their artistic talents, 10 minutes can sometimes just not be long enough. This limit of course comes from the worlds biggest video website Youtube, but it has now extended the time limit of user submitted content by 5 whole minutes.
Youtube who are owned by Google, said in a blog post Thursday that the longer upload time was the single-most requested feature that its users have been asking for. The extension is also due to improvements in its Content ID system, which automatically removes copyright violations by digitally sifting through the site’s uploads
So as users will now struggle to upload any movies or tv show clips, YouTube can go wild with their time limits. They said in a blog post that “We will continue our strong commitment to provide advanced technology and tools to protect the rights of small and large copyright owners worldwide. We’ll also do everything we can to release incremental improvements like this one that benefit our video creators”.
As an incentive to users submitting a longer video, YouTube will give new submissions a chance of being featured on YouTube’s homepage as a reward. Whoopee.
