IGNOU, SMU, IMT CDL amongst top distance institutes: Survey - By: MBA

Career magazine Careers 360 has come up with the ranking of the 30 best distance education institutes in India in its August 2010 issue. The ranking was done on 30 top institutes offering distance education on three broad parameters, Research and Resources, Learning and Experience and Results and Efficiency.
Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi ranks top among the overall ranking. The other distance learning institutes that have been ranked among top 10 are Sikkim Manipal University (SMU), Gangtok in the third position, IMT Distance and Open Learning Institute, Ghaziabad as fourth and Symbiosis Centre for http://www.mbauniverse.com/mba-syllabus-papers/cat-exam>MBA Distance Learning, Pune as number eight.
In the parameter of Research and Resources, IGNOU was positioned as number one. Sikkim Manipal University has been ranked six, IMT as number 13 and Symbiosis Centre for Distance Learning as number 20.
In the category of Learning and Experience, IMT has been ranked first. It is followed by SMU in the second position. IGNOU and Symbiosis Centre for Distance Learning have been ranked as fourth and sixth respectively.
In the Results and Efficiency parameter, SMU is the top ranking institute. IMT ranks fourth in this category. Symbiosis ranks eighth and IGNOU is on the 15th position.
The other institutes which feature in the survey are University of Mumbai, University of Delhi, Andhra University, Yashwantrao C Maharashtra Open University, Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Hyderabad; Dr. B R Ambedkar Open University, Hyderabad; Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University, Ahmedabad; Annamalai University, Annamalainagar; Netaji Subhash Open University, Kolkata; Osmania University, Hyderabad; Shivaji University, Kohlapur; MD Bhoj (Open) University, Bhopal; Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak; Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur; SNDT – Women’s University, Mumbai; Alagappa University, Karaikudi; Andhra University, Vishakhapatnam; University of Madras, Chennai; Karnataka State Open University, Mysore; Madurai Kamraj University, Madurai; Mahavir Open University, Kota; Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra; University of Calicut, Kozhikode and Kakatiya University, Warangal.
Discussing the methodology of the survey, Careers 360 said, “The input primarily looked at the reach, infrastructure and diversity of the institutions in providing distance education. The process emphasized on the quality of resources and delivery mechanism, while output focused on the performance of the institute in facilitating the trained student in getting a better prospect.”
